Training Type
Initial Training & Recurrent Training
IATA Standard
IATA AHM 1110, Edition 46 & IATA IGOM, Edition 15

Description

This exam evaluates the trainee’s knowledge of all GPU foundational lessons, through 15 multiple-choice questions. It ensures the trainee can recognize correct startup sequences and identify safety-critical parts consistent with ramp safety standards.

Exam Overview

  1. 1Introduction to the exam and its objectives
  2. 2Series of 15 questions covering GPU basics, controls, and walkaround procedures
  3. 3Focus on operational sequence, safety awareness, and fault recognition
  4. 4Immediate feedback confirming correct or incorrect responses
  5. 5A minimum score of 80% (12 correct answers) is required to pass

Skills Acquired

  • Recall and apply correct GPU startup and shutdown procedures
  • Identify critical safety components such as cables, plugs, and drawbar
  • Recognize and respond to potential hazards or faulty conditions
  • Demonstrate understanding of pre-use inspection requirements
  • Confirm theoretical readiness before advancing to hands-on GPU operation

Exam Procedure

  • The exam consists of 15 questions, each offering multiple answer options. Some questions require selecting a single correct answer, while others may have several correct choices.
  • Topics span all prior GPU foundational lessons, including component functions, ignition and power output logic, emergency stop use, safety-critical inspections, and correct walkaround behavior.
  • Upon completing all questions, if at least 80% of the answers are correct, a summary confirms that the trainee has successfully demonstrated theoretical understanding of GPU operations. If the threshold is not reached, the exam must be retaken before progressing.

Sample Exam Questions

  • What is the primary function of a Ground Power Unit (GPU) during aircraft turnaround?
  • Where is the GPU power cable stored when not in use?
  • Which of the following could pose safety risks if damaged or faulty on the GPU?
  • The GPU’s power plug is:
  • What is the first step to operate the GPU in normal conditions?
  • Which of the following must be ON for the GPU to supply power to an aircraft?
  • What does the Emergency Stop button do?
  • What is the purpose of the GPU walkaround?
  • When should the GPU walkaround be performed?
  • If the power plug is damaged, what could result?
  • During the walkaround, if a tire is flat, what should you do?
  • Which of the following should be checked during the walkaround?
  • What causes the power output touchscreen button to turn red?
  • Why must the drawbar be checked during walkaround?
  • What sequence correctly describes safe GPU operation startup?
